What Is a DIN-Rail Energy Meter?
A DIN-rail energy meter snaps onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail inside a distribution box — the same rail that holds miniature circuit breakers. Compared with traditional wall-mounted meters, DIN-rail meters are compact, quick to install and ideal for sub-metering: apartments, shops, equipment racks, EV charging points and rental units.
Main Types You Will Meet
- Single-phase DIN-rail meters (1P2W): the workhorse for homes and small shops, typically 5(60) A direct connected.
- Three-phase DIN-rail meters (3P4W): for workshops, machinery and small commercial buildings.
- WiFi / smart DIN-rail meters: remote reading through an app — popular for landlords and property management.
- Prepaid versions: IC-card or keypad based, used where credit collection is difficult.
Installation Tips From Our Factory Engineers
- Always install the meter after the main breaker, with correct phase sequence for three-phase models.
- Check the rated current against your real load — a 5(60) A direct meter covers most residential circuits without external CTs.
- Keep the display readable after the box door closes; LCD modules differ between models.
- For export projects, confirm the local frequency (50/60 Hz) and register language before ordering.
